Cruise & offshore work for Myanmar applicants — STCW, authorized agents, fee red flags

Cruise & offshore work for Myanmar applicants — STCW, authorized agents, fee red flags

Updated: 27 Oct 2026 (Asia/Rangoon) · Type: howto · informational only · not legal advice

Public offshore oil & gas crew ads this week were often Malaysian-nationals-only (e.g. Sarawak project boards). Cruise and container shipping still hire Myanmar candidates — but almost always through authorized crewing offices, not random Facebook brokers.

1. Two common corridors

Corridor Where to look Typical docs
Merchant / engine / deck Official Myanmar crewing offices (example live today: MSC Crewing Myanmar vacancy) CoC/CoP, STCW, Seaman’s Book, medical, passport
Cruise hospitality / F&B / hotel Brand careers + authorized hiring partners only (example hub: Royal Caribbean Group — Ship careers) Passport, English, hospitality experience, PEME medical; C1/D visa later if US ports

2. Safe-apply rules

  1. Only use emails / Viber numbers printed on the official .com site
  2. Shipping/cruise majors do not charge a fee to apply or to “guarantee” a ship
  3. Training schools may charge for courses — that is different from a job placement fee
  4. Keep your passport; never surrender it as a “deposit”
  5. Get the vessel / company name, rank, wage, and contract length in writing before leaving Myanmar

3. Fee red flags

  • “Pay USD now, join next week”
  • Agent with no office address / no company licence
  • Lookalike websites or WhatsApp numbers that are not on the official vacancy page
  • Someone claiming they can skip STCW / medical

4. Before you resign your current job

  • Match your certificates to the exact rank advertised
  • Ask who pays for flights, joining medical, and visa
  • Confirm allotment / family remittance process (then compare MMK rates on mmkhub.info)

5. Related live board (today)

  • MSC Crewing Myanmar engine vacancies — drafted separately as an MMKHub job card

MMKHub note: Checklist only — not crewing advice. Rules and partner lists change. Confirm with the shipping company or authorized partner yourself. MMKHub does not place seafarers and does not sell certificates.
